Home Sweet Classroom: 11 Hilarious Reasons to be Grateful for Homeschooling

There are so many genuine, profound reasons to be thankful for homeschooling. Homeschooling provides freedom, connection, and the chance to slow down. Homeschooling gives us the gift of time.

The following are not those type of reasons, but are a little tongue-in-cheek. Hopefully they’ll make you laugh while pondering, like Teddy Roosevelt said, “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty…”

Top 6 Reasons Kids Should Be Thankful For Homeschooling

  1. Second Breakfasts.

2. No Fashion Police: Pajamas are trendy any day the kids want them to be.

3. No Morning Rush: Your kids do not have to get up before the sun to go wait outside in inclement weather for the school bus.

4. No Hall Pass Necessary: Your kids can go to the bathroom whenever nature calls (The first minute of this scene from Mean Girls really nails how crazy it is to have to ask permission to relieve oneself!)

5. The Class Pet is the Real Pet: Your kids don’t have to settle for just a little time and a little responsibility with a pet.  They get all the shedding hair, the scooping poop jobs, and exercise responsibility all to themselves.

6. Something to Blame: Your kids can blame any of their weird or embarrassing traits on homeschooling. Sure, we all know they’d be weird regardless, but it’s nice to have a scapegoat.

Top 5 Reasons Homeschool Moms Should be Thankful:

  1. You Get to Learn Math Again: And if you have multiple kids, again, and again, and again.

2. Authenticity Abounds: Instead of saving the best hours of your day for your kiddos, you get to be fully authentic and known by them 24/7. Every sassy thought, angry word, or grumpy scowl will be taking place front and center of your home!

3. Character Building at an Advanced Level: Forget the parenting books, homeschooling is the ultimate crash course in character building. Emily Bailey of Homeschool Unscripted calls homeschooling “a pressure cooker for personal growth.”

Why, just look at you grow!

4. Decoration Decisions are Made for You: You don’t have to sit around and ponder if you’ll decorate your house in Fresh Traditional, Dark and Moody, or Coastal Cowgirl this year. Nope, your house will be so covered in science experiments, history projects, paper, pens, and books that you won’t have to worry about such trivial matters.

5. The Lunch Lady is You: Say goodbye to mystery meat and hello to a culinary masterpiece crafted by none other than mom! Your menu is now whatever you and your children desire. Gourmet PB&J, anyone?

In all seriousness, please do take the time to look around whatever chaos is brewing at home and count your blessings. Homeschooling is a privilege and a blessing.
